A Girl...A Love...A Dream

I have a love for basketball! My love for it started at a young age. I always tell people that I was born to play but someone forgot to tell my legs. I am in a wheelchair so I have never been able to play it, but I live my dreams through others. I work with the women's basketball team here at BYU and I am so thankful that I have this great opportunity to do this. The team is like a second family. The other day I was looking on Instagram and one of my teammates going through an ACL injury posted quote I really like.

"Athletes: Don't take the sport you play for granted. Every time you play, you better be damn thankful that you get to do something you love. Don't show up to practice complaining about not wanting to be there; you're there hopefully because you love it. Work hard every moment. If you're not working hard, you don't deserve to play. Play every practice or game like it's your last because it very well could be. When you finally reach the day that you can't play, and you can only watch, then you will know how much you love something that you once took for granted."

We need to realize that we can't take things in life for granted. I would give anything to step foot onto a basketball court and play in a game. I can only imagine what my teammate with an ACL injury is feeling now because I know the feeling to not be able to play the game I truly love. She had this privilege ripped away from her. I know this feeling of heartbreak.

  1. ....such a great thought, Kylie. It is way too easy to take our days, and hours, and minutes for granted. I try to appreciate life, but after reading your post, I too get feeling "picked on" sometimes, when I have so very much to be grateful for. Thanks for the reminder.
